    Repairing '58 wiper motor baseblate

I would appreciate suggestions on how to repair a '58 wiper motor baseplate. This aluminum plate is bolted to the firewall below the wiper motor on '56 -'62 models. It has a shaft through the middle to transfer motion of the wiper motor to the cable/pulley system below the dash.

I've got excessive wear in the bushing around this center shaft. Each end of the shaft is "staked" in place, so I am hesitant to take it apart without knowing where to buy a replacement bushing or who to hire for machining services that might be needed.

Can anyone who has done this before give me advice? If you help me out on this one, I promise to never mention my heat transfer theories again.

I believe some spell it "baseplate".

At least those who don't want to look like a fool.

Re: Did Someone Say Heat Transfer?

Don't worry, I ran out of breath, typed all know about it in 1 page and got a cramp in my typing finger. Of course that beats getting out of breath and getting cramps in your legs running around the yard naked testing theories.......

There have been several articles on this subject with step by step instructions/pictures in past issues of Restorer magazine. You can search by subject for the issues using top web page and order from NCRS Merchandise in Cincinnatti.

I have recollection either NOS baseplate parts are available from Corvette Central or they have reproduction part -- Sawyer Michigan (616) 426-3342. Get to know them as they're the only MAJOR parts house that specializes in SA items.

Last, think you'll find the baseplate (wiper drive) was in a number of GM passenger cars/trucks of the era and used parts are readily available at scrap yards that specialize in older vehicles (drive cable length and arm drive parts differed from application to application). Check it out. Might be able to get up and running, with spares, inexpensively....
