I am going to removed the steering column from my vette and send it out for rebuild. I have never done this and was wondering if there is anything tricky associated with it. Are the wire plugs easily available for unplugging? Is it a pretty easy task? Thanks in advance for the help.

Re: 1970 Steering Column Removal
Step by step instructions are given in the Chassis Service Manual (CSM) which is a very handy book to have in your support library. It's not a very difficult job, but for re-installation it can be handy to have a helper to guide the lower end of the column onto the rag joint while you hold/guide the column through the cockpit/firewall into position. Knowing what's adjustable (eg. reverse lockout) is also handy.
If you don't have a copy of the CSM in your library this might be an ideal time to purchase one (available on this website--STORE button). Also, be aware that '70 was a peculiar year for Corvette. Since it was a 1/2-year production vehicle, the CSM that was was in print at the start of the model year was the '69 Covette and that's the CSM book that's available for your car.
Many things are identical, but a few of the items unique to the '70 Corvette were covered with an addendum/bulletin. This is also available through the NCRS Merchandise Center (STORE).- Top

Re: 1970 Steering Column Removal
Don, start as Jack said, but also take a look at
and look the steering section. The author, Jim Shea, is a retired engineer from the company that built your steering column. He has put a lot of great diagrams, exploded parts views, and general "how to" stuff on that site. It compliments the GM manual very nicely.
