It must be for an Air Vette that needs the bigger fan blades. The AIM shows one is called for but was NEVER really used. You need it to get by with some of the Judges.

      Zachary-----

Assuming that "921239" is a GM part number (which would be very unusual if it's stamped on every blade of the assembly), it's NOT a Chevrolet part number and it was never used on any Chevrolet. I can't find any record that such a part number was used on any other GM car or truck, either. Of course, it may be a manufacturer's ID number of some sort, too.

It is a GM 3863137 "optional" production fan

Joe, Zachary, and Gary - this is a GM fan, but Joe you are correct the numbers are not the GM part number. Pete Lindahl and I have had discussons back and forth on this fan, and it is the 18" "optional" fan used on AC vettes in midyears with the "dice" rivet pattern. By "optional", it is NOT an orderable optional fan, it is the "other choice" vendor or 2nd source supplier the line used. This fan was apparently never sold over the counter, only used on the build line. I have a fan in my collection of fans like this. The part and date are on each blade, so I believe it was the sippliers designation for for blade before fan assembly. BTW, the details of this fan are in Noland Adams Volume 2 restoration guide on page 340, and the GM P/N of the fan is 3863137. This is also listed in the AIM....Craig

Re: Need help identifing this fan application.

By the way, mine also has the same "E6" code, if it is a date or not, I am not sure, I assumed it meant May of 1966 but maybe not. The 921239 and SC are also there, on each blade. As I recall, Pete has one of these on one of his cars, and his may not have been the "E6" but the rest was the same. Possibly this supplier built a batch of blades and stockpiled them, and later assembled fans or built a large batch. I plan to use this fan on my 67 L79 KH coupe....Craig

Re: Need help identifing this fan application.

This fan is on my '67 AC convt. with Oct. 4 '66 build date. Years ago at flight judging, I was told this fan was incorrect, due to the mushroom head rivets and one blade with what appears to be balance weights. The car has been judged possibly 5 times since that first time and no one's picked on it until the N.C. Regional. I have removed the fan and am trying to do some research on it just to see what's correct. Thanks for the help Joe and Craig.

Re: Need help identifing this fan application.

Zachary - yes, it is the controversial fan based on the TIM&JG. But I wouldn't rule out it is original, however, it may be easier to loof for an 18" 5 flat head rivet fan. I also have the other correct fan but with mushroom rivets, so that would be an issue too...since it was earler than 67 supposedly. It is not easy to find the 18" vs 17.5" fans with the correct rivet type...Craig
