    Early '69 air dam question

Hello all. I am replacing the air dam on my early '69 (Oct 68) with a piece I received from Dr. Rebuild. It is the piece that goes on top of the radiator support and seals against the hood. The piece I received is 10" long and 1" thick. it is concave on the ends and along one side. Which way does the concave side face? The front or rear? Actually, I don't ever remember a piece in this location (owned car since 1971) but if it is correct and will help aid cooling I will out it on. Thanks for your help.

the foam you refer to went through many changes and i hope you have the correct piece , it must be a small block , mine is a b/b and prompted the message , because mine is not concave

Thanks for the quick response. Mine is a small block and the package says all the right things. Maybe someone out there has some other info. Thanks again.

        Jeff-----

The piece that you describe is correct for an early 1969. However, it's really not "concave"; it's just a piece of dense foam rubber which is about 10" long and of a rectangular cross section. It may have gotten slightly curved in the package. This piece attaches to the center top of the radiator support and contacts the hood when the hood is closed. You can attach it to the top of the radiator support with 3M Super Weatherstrip Adhesive. I have a friend with an original owner, 1969 that's an October, 1968 built car. It has the air dam just as described.

Later 69 small blocks got a different set-up. This is a 3 piece air dam with the center piece just about like the early cars, but 2 small pieces on either side. My original owner, late build 1969 is like this.

          Joe:
As always, I appreciate your expertise. I thought that the piece was supposed to be square on all sides but this one is definitely concave on the ends and on 1 side. Maybe you're right in that it got squashed in the package. I'll try to square it up or maybe just put it in as is and let the hood do the work. Thanks for all your help.
