need help identifying gm steel rims probably ' or earlier gary beaupre when i bought my coupe the previous owner gave me what he said were the original steel rims in addition to the repro knock offs on the car well it turns out of the four steel rims have nothing to do with a corvette in fact i'm not sure they are corvette rims of any year i'm hoping that someone can help me identify them both rims have the letters gm stamped between lug nut holes the rims are not the that is appropriate for and later corvettes the center section is welded to the hub section with oblong weld spots another unique feature is that there are no bumps between each pairs of lug nut holes next to the valve stem is a pair of elongated raised dots x stamped in from the inside of the hub only the outside front hubcap side has any stamped code information one rim has an upper case letter s about tall which is located about away from the raised dots valve stem about in the other direction away from the valve stem is the upper case letter a which is about tall and about past the letter a is the number also about tall the second rim has the letter r tall where the letter s is on rim and then the numbers and where the first rim has the a and the there are no stampings on the inside of the rim the area hidden when a tire is mounted finally there are large bumps at a radius of about presumably for holding on small not full face hubcaps i've read mike ernst's article in the restorer magazine on rims but my rims don't seem to correspond to anything he describes mike says the standard or rims don't have the raised dots near the valve stem and the rims he says are not welded if i recall correctly any information would be greatly appreciated gary beaupre
