I have just removed my fuel tank cover on my 62 to replace the original rubber fuel line this weekend, and after the completion wanted to reinstall the cover over the fuel tank. I'm not sure it had been ever removed before but found that it had a material sort of a putty consistancy between the cover and the body to act as a sealant. My question is what type of material should be used to reseal and where to get it.The original material had been white in color and was not in the best of condition for reuse, also I had a combination of phillip head and straight blade screws for fasteners, is that correct as well? Thanks again

Re: C-1 FUEL TANK COVER
You want skinny strips of putty. "Dum-dum" is what was in there originally. Believe 3M still sells it. Easier is that window caulking stuff for drafts from Home Depot/Lowes that comes in 1/8" strips on a roll. Nobody's going to see it. Don't use caulking that has adhesive qualities. Somebody will want to get that cover off again someday. The screw head should be phillips.- Top
