Only undercoating used was in the wheel well area to thwart stone kickup from leaving bullseye in overhead fender paint. A can of off-the-shelf undercoat from your local auto parts store gets the job done.
As far as coverage, it varied with the phase of the moon based on painter and his in-a-hurry attention to detail. I've seen some untouched originals with nothing more than a ragged 1-2 inch spritz in the center of the wheel well to others with VERY heavy coverage, runs & sags. This is an area of Corvette restoration that's pretty much an owner's choice 'art form'....- Top

I think it's a good idea in the fender peaks. That's the only place I re-sprayed with u/c. I found some 3M that goes on kinda thick and looks good. I bought some cheaper stuff but it was pretty thin and messy.
