    C2 P/S problem

My winter project included replacing all the p/s lines.I started the engine and ran it for 10 mins. or so,added fluid and do not have 100 % p/s.
I have not checked pressure(no guage)but had no problems before replacement of lines. No noise in pump.
    Wassup with that??

    Re: C2 P/S problem

    Dave,

The procedure to bleed the P/S unit is in the 1963 shop manual. If you overhauled the valve it's best to disconnect the slave cylinder at the frame mounting and with the engine running you can turn the steering box rag joint left and right to run the cylinder in and out to bleed the air but just be careful not to let the end of the cylinder rod hit the frame when running it out. This procedure is also used to center the valve so the wheel will not go to left or right lock when starting the motor for the first time after valve overhaul. The power steering on our cars is only a power assist and will not turn the wheels on a garage floor without some effort, as soon as you back the car down the driveway you will notice the steering works fine. I hope this helps out. Tim Barbieri

      Tim,
I didnt rebuild the unit,I only replaced lines.Air can get in by doing just that?
I dont have that manual, can you be more decript on the bleeding procedure?
      Dave
      Thanks!

        Dave,

Jack the front up so the wheels are just off the ground, start the engine and turn the steering wheel full left and full right. If there is air in the system this will force it out. Check the P/S fluid again and go for a drive, if replacing the hoses is all you did I think it will be fine. Tim
