    69 wipers working

I now have my wipers working by the switch low and high speed, the problem I have now is the door closes to quickly and closes on the wiper arms. The another problem is the wipers don't go all the way down. When you start the car with the wipers on then they go down the rest of the way. Almost there except it seems like a timing problem. All help greatly appreciated.

    Tom:

I've experienced this problem occasionally. I found that if you wait until the wipers are in a "down" cycle (i.e. moving back towards the closed position) then slide the switch to OFF it will close properly every time.

Tom there is a vacuum relay valve under your wiper grille. When the wipers are turned off and reach the park position, the passenger wiper pushes in on the valve and this permits vacuum to be applied to the vacuum can that will close the wiper door. Perhaps a failure of this valve is the problem. I don't know who has the oldest working original valve, however my original owner 68 still functions. I don't think GM thought the valve would last this long. It might still be available from GM. I have a new spare that I bought about 14 years ago for my 68 and 70, but don't have the part number at work.

Vac mis-routing can be part of the problem, but typically it's an issue of the owner/restorer not understanding the system and getting things adjusted properly.....

The vac valve the RH wiper arms depresses when it hits the park position and thereby triggers the wiper door to close is ADJUSTABLE! It's talked about in the Chassis Service Manual. The relay valve mounts to the wiper door frame and has enlongated bolt holes so it can be positioned up/down to set the exact point at which the wiper door will presume the arms have parked and it's safe to actuate closing of the wiper door.

Thanks to every one, I finally have them working properly with all yall"s help and a friend and corvette owner. It was a variety of problems to include my frustration. Thanks again.
