    C2 63 Timing Cover

My 250 hp 63 runs extremely well with the time advanced about 21 degrees. I do believe that a prior owner changed the timing cover based on what I understand to be correct and what I can see. Would anyone have a photo of a 63 250hp timing cover to send me for a comparison.

    Thanks in advance

    Harry

      Harry,

If your saying the engine runs well with the timing set at 21 deg at idle with the vacuum adv line disconnected, that might be an incorrect balancer, not the chain cover. If it was a 69 and later balancer, the timing mark would be moved up roughly 10 degrees from the original 55-68 position and that would give a timing readout of the initial setting plus the 10 degrees. That could result in a 21 degree reading with the timing actually being in the 10 deg range. If it was an early balancer and a late cover, the timing would show as near zero when it's actually at 10 deg. Just a guess???

If I remember correctly, the zero line on a 55-68 timing tab is at 45 deg from horizontal. Also, the 55-68 balancer timing mark lines up exactly with the keyway in the hub if you lay a straight edge from the CL to the timing mark.
