re steering tire questions j grantham suggest your friend gets a copy of corvette servicing guide st and reviews the steps for column removal it's a medium degree of difficulty job and could take at least hours to get out and hours to reinstall there are some instructions on how to center the column on top center and get everything aligned with the dash etc the main concern is damaging the body paint be careful it is a good time to inspect the drag link and replace the seals on it if needed also he will have the turn signal switch and mechanism exposed while the steering wheel is off clean and lube this too there are sector and bearing kits availible for the box but if the shaft worm gear is worn i would suggest that a non mechanically inclined person send it out for rebuild i is worth tearing into to see what is wrong before sending it out i am running firestone radials on my car size r the whitewall was the right size and they are fine
