    C2 67 upper A arm installation

I just replaced the upper ball joint on my 67. I completely removed the upper A-arm and had to pry the front part away from the edge of the fan shroud for clearance so I could remove it. I am somewhat skeptical about getting this back without damaging my shroud. Any advice? This is a smallblock L79 AC car.

    Thanks. Jim Blakely #3742

    Jim -

If you remove the studs on which the alignment shims rest, you should have just enough room. The studs are pressed into the frame, and although they look like bolts, they can't be "unscrewed" without damage. I just did this job in my '66, and used a slide hammer borrowed under the AutoZone free tool loan program. I used a 90 degree attachment on the end of the slide hammer, which was inserted through the opening in the inner fender. After removal of the studs, you can slip the A-arm through the inner fender opening, and reinsert the studs, which can then be tapped back into place.
