Re: 1967 Coupe Vent Window Regulator Sloppiness
Ed,
------Looseness can also be from the end plate walking away from the housing. as a matter of fact its more likely! Those end plates are only peened on and when someone cranks too hard on the vent cranks for long enough, the end plates work thier way loose. Taking the doorpanel off can answer the question, and the repair is something anyone can accomplish in a couple of different ways pretty quickly!...............Bill S- Top

Paul, that's probably what you need. Some folks have found that tightening the rear cover of the regulator will tighten it up, but after 35-40 years of use, most of the gears are worn. On my car, the last two gears were worn completely off on the left side. These are the two that have pressure on them to close the window tight.- Top

When you remove the regulator, if the back plate, (which is only marginally attached by peening over part of the main body), is loose, you can re-attach it by grinding flush the body attachment points, drilling holes, tapping and installing small bolts where the body was attached to the back plate. The restorer magazine, volume twenty-four, number two, fall 1997 has a good article on doing this. I did it to mine, and all the play was removed and they operate like new.- Top
