69 Power Steering Pulley

The judging manual states, "On small block engines, the power steering pulley is stamped sheet stock with a GM logo and part number." My 69 L-46 has a cast iron pulley, and all of the parts suppliers I have checked sell a cast iron pulley for this application. Can someone solve my confusion?

Judging manual is correct, PS pulley that mounts to the harmonic balancer for '63-74 SB is stamped steel, 6-11/16 inch diameter with PN embossed on it. There's a nice picture in the Paragon catalog (their part 1769) to view.

It looks like part No. 1769 is for 69 small blocks with A/C. If you look at Paragon part No. 1352, it is a cast iron pulley for 1969-74 350's w/o A/C.

There is much confusion regarding power steering pump pulley applications. A lot of it was started by GM since the P&A Catalogs are very "ambiguous", at best, about this. However, for 1969 I can tell you this: 300 hp engine with and without A/C used stamped steel pulley GM #3770509. L-46 without A/C used cast iron pulley GM #3834720. I'm not sure which pulley that L-46 with A/C used.

If you attempt to install the stamped steel pulley, GM #3770509, for your application, I think that you will find that the pulley grooves will not align properly with the crank pulley. 300 hp with and without A/C used an "add-on" crank pulley which drove the p/s pump. L-46 drove the power steering pump pulley directly from the outer groove of the 2 groove crank pulley. That fact and the difference in the crank and w/p pullies used for the 300 hp and L-46 applications is the reason for the difference in p/s pump pulley requirements.
