    '67 judging deductions

I have a '67 435hp car with a tank sticker, the tank sticker does not list side exhaust as an option. I would like to add side exhaust. I know that even if I make it look exactly like it is supposed to that the tank sticker will show that it was not original equipment. If I went ahead and added the side exhaust, what is the overall deduction? I know that I will receive no points for exhaust, but would that bring a 95 point car down 1, 2, 3, etc points? I guess my question is could you still receive a Top Flight honor if everything else is original? How much damage am I talking about?

    Thanks

I WENT FOR JUDGING MY 67, THINKING THEY WERE ORIGINAL TO THE CAR. THE DEDUCTIONS WERE SUBSTANTIAL. IF I RECALL, YOU LOSE ON THE EXHAUST PIPES, THE REAR VALANCE, THE ROCKER MOLDINGS HANGERS ETC.ITS BEEN A FEW YEARS AND I DON'T HAVE THE JUDGING SHEET HANDY. BUT 90 POINTS SOUNDS REAL FAMILAR.I PERSONALLY LOVE THE LOOK, SOUND AND SPACE ADVANTAGES UNDER THE CAR. BUT ON THE CAR YOU ESCRIBE I WOULDN'T DO IT. LOU

      Jeremy,
The tank sticker is not judged. Is you sticker still on the tank or do you have it in a documentation book? As long as you don't tip them off in some way, all they have to go on is what is presented in front of them. There are restorers out there who can convert a non-original side pipe car to a side pipe car but the ones that can do this where it is undetectible are few indeed. More importantly, there are many more judges out there who can tell 'add-ons" than there are restorers that can do it correctly. Good luck on your decision.

You will lose the points for rocker moldings, Rear valence, Exhaust system and mufflers, exhaust Bezels, and likely some points on the body for the rocker area cutouts needed to install the sidepipes. If the car has a radio you will lose some of the points for ground straps. and on and on. There are ways to detect a true sidepipe car that almost cannot be duplicated and certainly not without pulling the body. If you want to show the car, don't do it. If you want to drive it, it's your car.....
