Just received my outside LH mirror for my 65 vette. I ordered it at Bloomington last June 28. Nearly 9 months and guess what, NO DATE. Am I missing something here? The JG says to make sure to check the date on the glass, but mine is bare. Anybody else have this happen? 9 months for a no-date mirror! The invoice shows 11DMI4. Am I going to have to wait another 9 months to get another mirror. Sorry for the rant. THANKS

Re: LH mirror dating
Dick,
you positive it is not dated? the date code is TINY, and you really have to look in the glass to see it - if you are positive, I would DEMAND that you be able to return the mirror and then order from PARAGON - ordered one for my 1963 and had it three days after I orderedRick Aleshire

How does it rate up to the Original?
Rick,
3 days must be a record!
Just wondering how it compares to the original mirror from '63. Does it feel the same in your hand (weight)? Chrome finish (quality) as compared to your original?
When I first bought my '63 about 12 yrs ago, I made the mistake of trying to replace the emblem on my fuel cover and a supposed "expert" shop ruined the tabs. Since then, I have been living with a repro gas cover and it has not stopped bothering me.
The repro, while perfect, is definatly not the same as original.
I recently bought an original dated mirror (eBay) and while it has a very few minute scratches, it has that weight and feel of the real deal. The mirror that was on my car was not dated and was badly damaged along the rim. I also read on this board that PARAGON restores the originals!
Out of curiosity, just how far does, or should the judging system go in regard to cosmetic parts such as these (original vs. repro)?
Should I be ordering a new dated mirror or sticking with as many parts as originaly came with the car 41 yrs ago?

Re: How does it rate up to the Original?
Paragon has the license to reproduce the original style mirror in the original tooling used by GM (or the supplier). I sold these mirrors for about 15 years and had no complaints from any user. The dated glass that I used was right on with no judging deducts. The weight, finish, detail of the mirror was probably as perfect as came on the car. Remember, fit, finish, etc was not a high priority for GM in that era.Dick Whittington- Top

67 LH mirror
I also just bought a NOS dated mirror for my car. I have my original with no glass, it's used for sure, but I might go with it anyway. Question is my original mirror has a small Allen screw at the base to hold the mirror to the base. The repop I have does not, is this an original mirror feature or something added later in it's life. I'll try to post a picture tonight.

Re: How does it rate up to the Original?
Interesting, I have an April built 63 with a repro rear-view mirror. I was at the meet in Florida last year and a vendor told me that April built 63's had mirrors with no date code. I am still in disbelief!!!
Thoughts....

Re: How does it rate up to the Original?
Harry: According to the 63-64 judging manual the glass on all outside mirrors were dated regardless of early or late style mirror frame in 63 & 64.
The inside mirror is a differant story. The early mirror with the rivets and the name "Guide" stamped on the back, the glass was not dated. The later style mirrors were dated for both 63 & 64.- Top
