Re: eBay Stupidity - unrestoring an NCRS car
What is a NCRS car?
I was just at an auction last week end and a fellow had written across his windsheild " NCRS RESTORED" I asked him what it meant and he went about explaining how a NCRS RESTORED car is the best of the best.Looking over the car I noticed some new hardware it was a clean shinny car that looked like some one spent a couple of hours with a couple of cans of spray paint detailing it.Freshly painted intake manifold, freshly painted alternator including the diode's (all painted with aluma blast I assume) Entire rear suspention painted gloss black including half shafts brake backer plates and all.And I mean they just sprayed over what ever dirt was there.
I almost wanted to take 40 minutes and explain what a ncrs reatoration is all about and point out the flaws in this car but the more I thought about it the more I realized he was just a used car salesman and he had no clue what the NCRS is all about and all he was doing was marketing his car falsely using the good name of the NCRS to make his sale.
It frustates me to hear these terms.I am sure the buyer of the car is thrilled to be purchasing a NCRS restored car but when and if he shows up for flight judgeing he is going to be in for a large disapointment.the car that was for sale in the auction I went to with NCRS RESTORED in giant letter as it went across the auction block was false advertizing and meant to mislead people into thinking it was a higher quaility of a car then it actually was.
I am often asked to give advice for the purchase of a vette for freinds or freinds of freinds. And the best advice always give if your looking at a investment grade vette look for recent flighted cars and veiw the judging sheets.
By no means am I saying the car in the ebay auction above is not what its stated to be,Nor am I trying to sway some ones opinion of the car- Top
