63 AC Fuel Pump #4657 (Again)

I obtained a rebuilt AC Fuel Pump with the correct # and AC at the top and bottom. The only curious thing I wanted to make sure of is that on the top outer flange, between the ridges, is |made|in|Canada| along the outside ring.

Were they made in Canada then?

    Thanks,

    Joe..

    Joe,

I have a Dec 63 built 64 that uses the same pump and I believe mine to be the original. The only marking on the upper flange is the number 3, and it is located on the flange at the furthest point from the engine and is orientated to be read when facing the engine frome the right side of the car. The number is just forward of the center screw. I don't know the numbers signifigance, but it could indicate the year?

      Not date....

Most likely a casting mold or source identifier. These take-apart fuel pumps are dated though! The date info is in such an obscure location that it's not judged or even talked about in club literature.

You'll find the outlet on the body is dual cast for either a high or low drill/tap connection to the fuel line. One of the two positions is drilled and tapped while the second is left as a 'blind' hole--NOT drilled & tapped.

Clean the blind hole WELL. Take a flashlight and magnifying glass and look into the bottom of the blind hole. There, you should find a traditional casting clock showing month/year info.

However, once an original fuel pump has undergone remanufacture along a high volume reverse-assy line, all bets are off as to which of the pump's three cast components are original to the pump....

        Thanks Jack,

        Good information!

I checked my pump and I believe there is a J3 (eyes aren't what they used to be) in the center of the little cast hole, with some sort of hash marks around the outside. This would probably indicate a good chance that this pump is original to my Dec 6, 1963 built 250 horse car.

          Jack--
Thanks for mentioning that. I included that in an article I did some years ago on 62 No. 14445 and the dating game, part 3. Good to hear that some of that knowledge continues to be shared.

            Re: Not date....

Thanks all for the input. However, that still doesn't answer the original question about the "made in Canada" being ok.

However, this is all good stuff and I'm gonna check the date later. Thanks again.

            Jack, you da man!
