    C1, '58 full wheel covers

Has anyone resently purchased the the American made full wheel covers from Corvette Central or Corvette World? I'm curious as to the quality and the overall appearance. Also, is there someone out there that offers a reconditioned original set of four? Thanks

Terry, I would say if you were walking by a parked car with these caps, say, 10 feet away, they would look very good. Hold a repro and an original in your hands, and the differences are noticable enough to trouble a purist. Best, Dennis

Dennis, were the original covers chromed steel, stainless, or flash chromed stainless? I assume the spinners were chromed pot metal.

Originals (and repros) are stamped from stainless steel. Some say originals were flash chromed, but I do not have personal knowlege of that specific fact. Yes, the spinners were chrome plated pot metal. The reproductions (now) are pretty close and often rechroming an original spinner will cause enough loss of detail through the buffing process that it may not be worth it.

Excuse me, but I might add - to those who insist the the caps were "flash chromed".... How come, in my short lifetime, I've never encountered a cap with any chrome trying to leave home. In other words, if they had any type of chrome plating, I would think, at some point in time, I would see chrome trying to jump off and leave town. So far, I have seen none. Best, Dennis
