    C2 Undercar Seat Belt Reinforcements

Examining the top of my 66 undercar seat belt cable reinforcements, they appear to have been cadmium plated. However, the judging manual makes no reference to the finish and just indicates that the outer cable bolts were cad plated -- nothing else. I'm considering having all three cable assemblies plated (less the cables themselves). Any comments?

    Dave,

I posted a question about 3 years ago asking for the finish on the underbdy seat belt reinforcements for my '66 and the consensus was that they were black (gray) phosphate, not cad or zinc.

By the way, I judged a Bowtie worthy '66 this weekend and the long, front seat reinforcement plates were some sort of greenish phosphate, definitely not semi-gloss black paint as the '66 JG says they are. Another example of where the '66 JG might be lacking.

      Gary,

My pieces sure do look like they were originally plated with cad or zinc. There is no sign of phosphate plating on my parts. By the way, I learned that the underbody seat reinforcing plates on AO Smith body cars were zinc chromate finished and not semi gloss black per the JM. St. Louis bodies may have been black. I removed and painted my plates on my 66 and painted them with zinc phiosphate (same finish as chromate but environmentally more friendly) since mine was an AO Smith body. The plates, when removed from the body, showed signs of the greenish paint on them.

In Nolands book the under car pictures look like they were Cad or zinc plated.
