C2 63 Interior Spray Dye

Good day, I did a test this morning with saddle interior dye for my 63. I used two spray cans, each from a different supplier. As I suspected the color is not even close to one another. Since one can is almost empty, my question is which supplier has the saddle interior spray dye closest to the original 63 color.

Harry,

You say interior spray dye. What are you trying to Dye?

That makes a big difference since the "Dye" sold by various manufacturers is Vinyl Dye and not made to color hard surfaces.

I used four different colors of saddle tan with the interior of my 63 Coupe because that's the way it came from the factory.

The molding around the rear split windows and the molding around the headliner were different colors of Nitro Cellulose Lacquer and that accounted for two different colors.

A little research in the past issues of the Restorer will probably answer your question as there are paint charts published.

J. I should have included this initially. I am painting the steering column, kick panel trim and the rear quarter panels for a roadster.

Joe is correct. Use paint on the hard surfaces. I mixed my own color for the dark saddle and the light saddle colors available at the time I restored my car in 1980. It took quite a few tries to get it right.
