    1984 front hub dimension

Recently acquired 1984 has a bad front wheel bearing. These units are sold as the hub assembly. Apparently they no longer manufacture the original '84 style with out the speed sensor gear. The problem I have is the replacement I received is a smaller diameter behind the gear where it mounts into the carriage.
The old one is about 72mm and the new ones are about 71mm. Has anyone seen this? Does it make a big difference or should I throw some shim stock around it and forget it? 1 mm (.025") seems like a lot of slop to me.
    Thanks,
    Steve

I bought a spare front wheel bearing assembly 11-12 years ago, a Delco part, and it had the speed sensor gear. This was for my 85 and did not have anti-lock brakes, so even way back then I guess all replacement front wheel bearings had the gear reguardless if it was needed or not. Did you buy a AC Delco unit reference the 72mm vs 71mm difference?

As far as I know I did buy an AC Delco part. I looked at another today at a local AC Delco dealer and it too was toward the 71mm size. It had a sand blasted look to it however and cost twice as much. ($400.00)

Steve $ Jim. I have a 84 question. I don't know anything about your hub question.
        I am cinsidering purchasing a 84 10k-miles for 10,000.
However everything on dash display stays blank.
Can you suggest steps that should be taken; before I get taken.
I have read display problem is rather common.
Is there any vendor that repairs/whatever this part?
How easy is it to remove.
Any other suggestions about this car's display etc.
        Thanks Big John

          John,

I can't really say what the most common issue is here, however the website below may lead you to the answer and what it takes to fix it.

          Good luck
