    C2 Horn Circuit Problem

This problem just started tonight during the first drive in 8 weeks that weather permitted in No VA. With the engine off, the horns work with no apparent problem. With the engine running, the horn button kills the engine, and the horns do not work. Suggestions re likely cause and fault location? Thanks Les

There should be no relationship between any hot circuit and the horn button, except the relay itself. Thats the first place I would look.

Wayne Thanks and I will check the relay, but I expect it will be ok since the horn works when the ignition is off. My thinking is that if one of the switched hot wires is shorted to the horn circuit, the hot wire would be grounded when the button is pushed (and kill the ignition), and the horn circuit would not have a solid ground and thus prevent the horn from blowing. Does that make sense?

Yes, it makes sense, but it would be very unusual because the ignition circuit is separate from the horn button ground by a considerable distance until it gets near the relay. It is near the power supplied from the switch in the harness near the body bulkhead connector. It should be pretty easy to isolate with a vold meter. Unplug the ground wire at the relay and check it with and without the ignition on. Check that it is grounding properly when the button is pushed and check for voltage when the key is on of off. If it has any voltage when the key is on, your theory is correct. If not look from the relay out.
