    C5 - Warped Crankshaft

Has anyone heard of the harmonic balancer end of the crankshaft in a C5 "warping" at 70,000 miles or more?

    Bob --

I don't have a lot of experience on newer (96 and up) motors, but if you are talking about the "nose" of the shaft, I've not ever heard of it warping -- it's a least 1" round cast or forged steel! And, it's pretty stable up there -- not a lot of heat. Most warpage is caused by heat. I am sure if someone beat on it or heated it or did some other misinformed calamity, it might warp enough to be noticible, but I don't think normal wear would cause this unless it was that way from the factory (machined slightly off-center). I would look elsewhere in the reciprocating assembly -- possibly the harmonic balancer or flywheel would be a place to start....

Other C-5 owners might know more of a casting flaw in the original cranks, but this is the first I have heard of it on the board.....

    Regards -
