I've been "self educating"myself on glovebox doorsa for my 66 roadster. If I am right ,the original doors had a "crimped"metal edge on the backside, and the repros had a "flat"backing, yes??.Is there any thing else I should be looking for when I go to buy an nos door?.Also,do all these doors have that annoying rattle?.and if they do,(or is it just repros that rattle?)has anyone quieted theirs down?.

Re: 1966 glovebox door
I believe it's the opposite, original doors do NOT have the "wrinkled" appearance that replacements do. I've had both, and the original in my car is smooth all the way around. If it is an original door that has not had a new brushed aluminum insert put in, the "peened" over attachment points that resemble rivets will still be in tact.- Top

Re: 1966 glovebox door
The plot thickens!!I have both as well, the one in my car, with the flat backing,(which rattles and vibrates)and two of the wrinkled versions!.One of which was reputed to be nos and came in the original GM box(I know that doesnt mean it "is" nos)but one can only hope.I will check the rivets and see if that tells me anything.Anybody else have some input? Re: 1966 glovebox door
Jordan,
The old boy that bought the glove box door got plucked.
Here's the real story. Originals are flat and reproductions are flat. The ones from Trim Parts anyway are flat.
During the later run of the 66-67 glove box door that GM sold across the counter, the backs became rinkled. These are the across the counter replacements from GM.
The wrinkled ones will not pass NCRS judging!
The wrinkled ones are not worth stepping on at a swap meet.
Problem solved!

Re: Do you still have the eBay item # ?
Yes,I have two doors with the wrinkles, and the one on my car has the flat backing. Both doors with the wrinkles were stated to be "factory".I will get a picture up on here as soon as I can.But it sounds like the wrinkled door "is"a GM part, just not the "true"original. So is it then a "repro"from GM?.- Top

Re: 1966 glovebox door
Well, I bought one on ebay once, but before I did I asked the seller to email me some close-up pictures of the back so I could check for wrinkles and original fasteners. Sellers are generally very willing to provide additional pictures and/or information if you ask them. I'm sure it's either a new replacement or a reproduction, but not original.- Top

Re: 1966 glovebox door
Well, with regards to ebay, both buying and selling, once two or more bidders decide they want an item, anything goes. Some sellers don't understand the difference between new, nos and original. There are buyers for each of these types of parts. I have sold quite a few vette parts on ebay and I accurately list them, using nos, used and original in the correct sense, while at the same time suggesting buyers determine their own correct application. As a buyer, you have to know exactly what you are looking for and/or email the seller for additional pictures and info to make sure you get what you want. If you decide to sell one or more of the doors you have on ebay, describe them accurately in your listing(s), and I'm sure there will be a buyer for them.- Top
