    Tragic Accident Kills Jack Layton

Many of you may have known Jack or have read his posts on this board. Jack was killed yesterday in a tragic motor vehicle accident. Jack was a great guy, a Corvette guy to the core. Without Jack I would not be the owner of my 65 396 as he talked/emailed me through buying the car from a private party eventhough he was 1500 miles away. He helped with parts searches and gave great advice. I met him on this board and we emailed with each other several times a week. I finally met him in person last year at Carlisle. Again, he gave me great advice, telling me where to stay, even offering a room. To me and I'm sure others Jack was a great role model. He highly valued the NCRS and strongly encouraged me to try and form a local chapter in Omaha--we have our first meeting this Saturday. So old friend, Gods Speed and may your Holley never leak again!
**For those interested, the Free State Corvette Club will have information on their website tomorrow. www.freestatecorvette.com Jack's family is accepting donations that benefit the American Cancer Society and their Church**

Sorry to hear of the loss of your friend and a fellow Corvette good guy. I never had the pleasure of meeting Jack but remember this, his last post, from just a few days ago. https://www.ncrs.org/forum/tech.cgi?review=114160
It makes you stop and think.

      John------

Absolutely unbelieveable and stunning! Jack's words in his most recent post prove to be astoundingly prophetic.

It seems almost unreal that words so recently posted on the board could be of someone that is no longer with us; as impossible as it could be that someone could be "here one minute and gone the next". Unfortunately, that's how it's been from time immemorial for all beings and that's how it will be for all of us-----every single one.

A prophetic post, indeed. At least one gets the sense that someone who displayed such an attitude toward life had led a full and rewarding life. Those of us who procratinate should pay heed. Tomorrow is never guaranteed.

I too, as well as anyone who reads his most recent post will be made to think by the content of it. He sounds like a fine gentleman and will be missed.

I too remember reading Jack's final post and the impression it left. From those words I could tell that Jack was someone special that unfortunately for me I never had the opportunity to meet or share conversation. It would be nice as a memorial to Jack if that post could be archived. I hope his last thought was knowing that he was loved by those that really knew him. May he rest in peace.

This is very sad news. I never met Jack in person and I didn't exchange email on a regular basis, but I did have contact with him. I made a general request for help in locating a hard to find part for my '68. I got an email from him stating he might be able to help me locate the part and we had a brief email exchange. Two or three weeks go by and I get an email from this man stating he had checked a number of sources, but could not find the part. He also provided contact info for a couple parts sources and suggested I wait some time, then again contact these people. It really made an impression because this man had gone out of his way to help me and had been willing to check and follow up for not just a day or two, but over the span of weeks.

                God Bless, Jack

I have never met you, Jack, but I can see how willing you are to help other Corvette lovers (and probably, everybody else that you can).
I never knew you, but your "profile" says it all ............."Corvette Nut".

GodSpeed, and say hello to Zora for me.

Re: Tragic Accident Kills Jack Layton

I have been slow to add anything here simply because I have been at a loss for appropriate words.

Jack Layton's posts were familiar to us, and it was clear that he knew his Corvettes. Joe Lucia expressed the thoughts some of us have realized by this time in life; they are really brought home when someone we know or close to us is taken away...life will end for us all. Jack expressed a life philosophy that brought him great pleasure; caring for friends and family, helping others, and leaving something behind...I continue daily, striving, hoping, to meet that standard.

I believe that we are all here for purposes God planned for us before we were born. Clearly, Jack was working his assignments day by day. At some point, when our planned work has been successfully accomplished, then God promotes us to a superior plane of existence. If God sees fit, then our life is long and full of years. So long, Jack; we'll miss you here.
