    C-1 & C-2 Fuel Pump Rebuild Kit Recommendations

    I will be rebuilding a 4657 and a 4346 pump. They are both "correct" with the proper AC markings. I was advised that Paragon has kits available with correct screws and all parts including the rocker arm. I was unable to locate the kits on their website. Can someone provide me with the part numbers for these pump kits AND are their any other manufacturers kits that are recommended??
    Thanks!!

        Chuck: There are two kits available from Paragon. Kit # 494 for 1956-66 and kit # 496 for 1964 -66. Len

          Len;
          Thanks! Those are the 2 kits shown on their website. The 496 is for 40083 pump only, according to the listing. I find it hard to believe that the 494 kit will fit both the 4346 (long screw) and 4657 pumps.

            Re: C-1 Fuel Pump Rebuild Kit again trivia

            Chuck I don't know how to bring up the postings I do, but the rebuilt kit is Holley#12-856. Here is an other trivia. I posted two other info's on the pumps. May be some can tell you how to bring them up.??

              I have used Zip's kit and it worked fine.

                What about exterior cosmetics?

                Just getting ready to do mine too. Any suggestions for exterior cosmetics aside from just cleaning up the case?

                  Savvy judges...

                  should be able to readily spot the modern, replacement, gaskets supplied with these rebuild kits vs. a real McCoy AC original with its curvy white reinforcing thread lines visible where gaskets overhang the pump body sections. But, that should be a minor deduction.

                  On external cosmetics of metal components, try to clean up the parts and maintain that freshly cast surface texture of the pot metal pieces....

                    Jack;
                    Thank you for the response. Do you have a recommended vendor for the rebuild kits for the 4346 and 4657 pumps?? Do you know if the kits contain screws (both long for the 4346 and short for the 4657)???

                      Depends on what my objective is....

                      when I'm doing SERIOUS rebuild for factory concours examination, I reuse the ORIGINAL pump body bolts because there's a 'tiny' difference in head style and plating between what was originally used and what's packed in the catalog house's rebuild kits. Then, I go to my secret stache of real McCoy AC pump rebuild kits from the late 50's and install a factory ORIGINAL impregnated cloth lower gasket. Last, I scratch my head and anguish about the diaphram....

                      What comes in today's rebuild kits is based on modern plastic fabric that LASTS and LASTS vs the factory originals that were impregnated canvass material. Originals don't last worth a hoot, you risk 'kissing it' on a Performance Verification run, but the outside detail of the diaphram (orientation tab with reinforcement staple) is detectable. So, it's a choice between the rock 'n ye olde hard place as to how much authenticity you want to buy at the potential cost of premature failure.

                      Now, what others do who haven't walked umpteen swap meets and cleaned out the dusty shelves of a few mom/pop AC-Delco retailers for their replacement diaphrams and lower gaskets, I simply can't say. I'll bet they use the generic catalog fuel pump rebuild kits and bite the bullet on a point or two of originality when their rebuilt fuel pumps are judged....

                        Thanks Jack!!!

                        Thank you for answering my questions. I need to configure the pumps to operate on today`s gas. I have about 50 AC pump kits, some are rebuild. I`ll buy the Paragon kits and do some mixing with parts from the AC kits.
