    63 dash pad removal

Want to replace my drivers side dash pad in 1963. I have the gauge panel out and done. Looking at the dash pad the clips are somewhat confusing do they just push out of the fiberglass or is there a trick? Any help on installing the new one also appreciated. Thanks

Easier to remove the dash, but you should be able to get at it with the gauge cluster removed. The clips have to be pried apart. To install they are mashed together. If you order the pad with clips, it will be obvious when you see the clips.

i've found it easier to remove the entire dash which will require drilling the rivets on each door post then breaking the fiberglass bond at the dash to floorpan interface. then remiove the entire dah to a comfortable work station and have a go at the clips retaining the dash pads to the fiberglass dash framework. mike

I removed both dash pads on my 66 with the dash wishbone still in place. Granted, I had everything out under the dash as part of a body off including the seats, steering column and pedal cluster. You'll need to remove the instrument cluster, radio, heater controls and clock to get to the clips inside the center cluster. I didn't find it difficult except for those clips at the top and bottom of the center console. I bought new clips from Al Knoch at about $1 ea. versus all other suppliers who sell them for $3 ea (picked this tip up on the discussion board). You can probably reuse your clips if they were not removed before. See other archive threads on the DB.

Thanks for your help everyone. I thought redoing the dash on my 59 was hard. I'm not interested in taking the whole dash out as the pass side is in great shape. I'll try prying out the clips as I already have everything out on the drivers side. This all started with just wanting an acurate clock in the car and next thing I know I'm doing the whole dash!
