I have one fuel tank overflow hose with ribbing on it, and one just smooth, plain, fuel type hose. Anyone know which was originally used, or whether this item is judged in that regard? (I trying not to install the spring in the wrong type hose and have to do it again)

It was a thinwall, black rubber hose with ribs. Conventional, thick wall fuel line with cord reinforcement is totally incorrect (but functional). The internal "spring" to keep the hose from collapsing was inserted only in the lower end. If you use functional, but incorrect, conventional fuel line, you don't need the spring. In Appreciation of John Hinckley- Top
