I am trying to located a source for technical service bulletins for 1972 vet.
Specifically any mention of fan replacement type TSB.
I am original owner 72 base 350 m/t a/c car. Built 2-22-72.
Manufacrurer's Statement of Origin 2-24-72.
Car was not purchased until 5-11-72 from dealership.
My car has a MARCH 72 fan. It has never been replaced by me since purchase.
Car has been NCRS judged, however it got points deducted for FAN DATE.
I thought if I could locate a TSB during this time frame, I could possibly
discuss this discrepency with future judges. I know I'M Mr.Snowball in Hell.

John, when a car sat on a dealer's lot back in those days, strange things could happen and it would have nothing to do with a Tech Service Bulletin.

Let me give you an example: Suppose you have very late car, like last day of the model year production. The rally wheels are dated like TWO WEEKS AFTER the car build date...How in the everlivin' *ell can that happen?

Did they run out of wheels and tires and held the car at the plant for a couple of weeks? (Yuk, yuk, I'll guarantee you that one will never fly on the judging field, Snowboy. )

Well, maybe theives lifted the rally wheels and tires while the car was at the dealers lot and these are service replacement wheels! (Besides these are black rather than silver; do you suppose it had the optional full wheel covers?) Nope, all five wheels including the spare (presumably difficult to get inside a locked tub) are dated exactly the same, and the odds of getting five Corvette service replacement wheels all dated exactly the same that near the car's build date would seem like a really long shot. It almost seems like it would have to be production line volume for that condition to occur.

OK, maybe some picky customer bought a new Corvette from the next MY before this one was sold, and his car had "Brand F" tires and he wants "Brand G" tires. Those wiley sales guys get together and, wall-eye, they have a solution...just swap tires with last years Vette still on the lot since the tires are exactly the same size and the required brand. (This happened a lot back in the mid-sixties, but it usually involved UniRoyals... nobody wanted those suckers because the tread had a bad habit of separating.) Mmmmm, maybe we have the mystery solved! Well, maybe not...years later you break down the spare to find a mailing label addressed to the local Chevrolet parts depot.

So what happened??!! Nobody will EVER know...It's like knowing the Power Ball Lottery winning ticket is somewhere in a metropolitan garbage dump...It's safer (and more inaccessible) there than in Fort Knox.

If that fan is the only numbered and dated part on your car that's incorrect, you could have a Bowtie candidate. The fan only cost you a few points, anyway...quit laying awake at night thinking about that fan fer Heavens Sake!

Guys thanks for your input. Since I am original owner. I also kept a diary for
the first 10 years of the car on every little thing that was done to it;
i.e. 763miles 5-19-72 Ck frt.alinment,rt.wiper blade, grease door hinge:Dealer.
Car also has original paint etc. Car also has had only 800 miles put on it
in last 20 years. It is all a history of the car that I like to investigate.
So I would still like to know if there is any source for locating old
service bulletins etc. All the previous comments are enthusiastically (SP)
welcomed. Between the repair shop catching my car's interior on fire last year
and WonderBarMan ripping me off, I thought the fan inquiry was a calming
alternative.....Big John

There are no 1972 Technical Service Bulletins that deal with radiator fans - for any Chevrolet vehicle.

I bought the TSBs about 10-15 years ago at various swap meets. I used to see them fairly often, but not so much lately. Most of them deal with non-Corvette issues, and make the dullest reading in the world. The occasional bulletin that deals with a car I own (there ARE Chevrolet collector cars besides Corvettes) is a joy to read, however.

Even if there were a bulletin for a fan change, the judges would still make a deduction since the standard is "as produced by Chevrolet." There is even a minor deduction made for "campaigns" (what the general public refers to as recalls) that are safety related. The judges must recognize any deviation from factory originality with a deduction, however minor.

John (the big) I recently scored the 65 TSB pack (a ring binder, from an old dealer service op I imagine) from these folks, perhaps, if you still want to chase down TSBs for the 72 MY you can inquire if they have that collection:

Jack, thanks for the response. I didn't quite understand your comments
about locating a TSB book. I'm not sure what I'm suppose to do ,or to whom.
