OTC +/or Warranty Muncie codes

There's a 1969 M21 "660" on eBay (link below -- click on stamp pad image). Was surprised to see such a high number CT9_____45192 [CT = Chevrolet Transmission, similar to CE (engine) stampings].

My '71 "661" M22 P1D19C was purchased over-the-counter [confirmed by guy who did so] and has the code CT1_____43265, the sequence number being LESS than the '69 trans.

I always thought these numbers were sequential and cumulative over the years. Or, do they start at zero or 10001 for each new model or calendar year ? If the latter, seems like a huge number transmissions for either warranty and/or OTC sales.

There were lots of numbering anomalies after the first digit on both CE engines and CT transmissions, in spite of the convention of assigning blocks of numbers to each manufacturing plant to use for components ordered under the 5/50 warranty. Flint changed their "CE" numbering scheme several times, and added extra digits at the end for some sort of internal plant tracking, which nobody has yet been able to decode. "CT9" is 1969 manufacture 5/50 replacement, and the sequential number may or may not follow any convention.

Thanks, John -- In the meantime, there was another trans on eBay, and the guy gave a long description (seemed to know what he was talking about), mentions that the CT (year digit) starts at 40000, making the number of OTC or warranty transmissions in any given year more reasonable.
