The anti theft key cylinder on my 1970 has a metal backing plate one the inside along with a nut that holds the cylinder in place. Unlike the door key cylinders there is no outer ring around the cylinder face to hold it in place. Is this ring detachable or is it broken or do I have the wrong cylinder in place? Thanks

Re: C3 1970 Anti Theft
Don,
If the serial number of your 1970 is earlier than about 12,000 you should have the Briggs and Straton lock. This lock has the threads and nut on the back as you describe. As far as I know these locks are not designed to be disassembled, and if they fail (a common occurrence because there is no door or shield to protect the internals from corrosive exhaust gasses) they must be replaced. They were, and may still be, available from the original manufacturer, now named Strattec in Milwaukee. I have also seen them advertised in The Driveline.Terry- Top
