    68 Underbody Insulation

Aside from the trans tunnel insulation, are there any other insulation panels that should be mounted to the underbody of a 68?

I'm aware of the belhousing foam "blocker" that I say from Dr. Rebuild, but I thought I saw some insulation panels that were mounted under the seating compartment on someone's 69 rebuild project site, and was wondering if these were also used in 68's.

Looked though my AIM, but did not see them shown there.

Thanks in advance for any advise.

    Re: 68 Underbody Insulation

My 68 had the other underbody insulation, but the insulation is long gone now escept for one samll piece of the insulation left that is on the vertical footwell area on the drivers side. When new the insulation was on both the passenger and drivers sides. You should still have the metal retainers that were used when it was new.

Thanks Jim, I saw what is probably one of the retaining clips on the passanger side, but did not see any clips on the driver side.

You know of a good supplier for these?

I've looked through most of the ususal supplier cats, but have not run across them yet.

          Thanks Joe.

I spent some time going through his site and catalog, but must have missed it.

I will give them a call tomorrow.

Also the vary best advice I can give any one owning a Corvette that they may DRIVE is to add a sheet of 1/8 rubber glued under the front fenders. And you will never have or see any STAR paint cracks at the top fenders from rocks being thrown up by the tires. But that's me , I drive my Corvette

                Thanks Guys.

I will look at Paragon tomorrow.

I also intend to drive my car a lot, that's why I want to do as much as I can do about heat infiltration as possible.

And Roy, nice 55, and nice story about it too in the Restorer.

That's the second article I've read about your car in the past few months, pretty cool.

                Love those wheels.

                Regards,

                Rich

                    Richard,
If you have an early 68 built in 67 chances are it never came with any insulation other than the transmission tunnel. My early 4K build never had any other than the tunnel.

                      Hey Gene thanks!

Mine's a Nov 67 build, so I probably fall in that category.

I may retrofit the insulation for heat control though, not sure.

                      Regards,

                      Rich

                          Richard,
If you add it to such an early car you may take deductions on the judging field.
The heat generated on the floor is no worse than a mid year. The sheet metal shields are the same under the foot wells. The mid years have a pair of exhaust pipe shields that the 68 does not. You could add this for driving and remove it for the show field very easy. If you do the insulation it requires small holes for rivets for the clips.
