    NCRS Tools

    Does anyone know what tools if any that I will need to bring to the NCRS Regionals next week? I am registered for flight judging and understand they might ask me to take a few items apart to access #'s, this is my first meet.Thanks.

        A 2# stick of 60% and a short fuse for it. Excedrin and plenty of it, a 2# valium for your nerves, a case of the "beast", and plan to have a good time. It is only a car.

          gits close to your car with his chain saw....

          and a Sawed off double barrel 12 ga loaded with rock salt and bacon rinds to pepper his "A" with if he trys to squirm out of it...

            tracy: i could use a straight jacket after the day i've had. every install window channel(fuzzies) and the glass and regulators etc in a 57 chevy 210 post rear quarter windows?. Midyear coupes are a breeze compared to these bitches on wheels. Might just slip on over to the keg dispenser for a beast or two . the beast be better than Dickies valium. mikie

              It looks like your are having trouble getting a straight answer. It depends on what year car you are having judged. On all the eariler cars you will need to remove the ignition shielding to see the distributor and the coil. The judges will want to see the casting number on the engine but won't require removing the down draft tube if you have one. If you are showing a hardtop car that also has a convertible top you would need to remove the hardtop. I'd recommend leaving the hardtop home in that situation and only show with the converible top. Hopefully you have the reference manual that explains how the car should be presented. Don't take anything off until asked because the order can change. If you have a small tool box with small box and open end wrenches. A couple of screw drivers and a flash light you should be fine. I've had my car judged at all levels and 100 hundred percent of those judges were always helpfull and doing the job as well as possible. Judging a car properly is hard work so be as helpful as possible to the judges. the team leaders are helpful and if yu need a tool just ask one of the other guys on the field. They will bend over backwards to help. Good Luck. If you like working on your car you will always come away with new opportunities. If you don't like working on your car you should probably choose a new hobby.

                  John, it will depend on the year of your car, but generally you will be asked to remove the following (discounting my faulty NCRS memory):

                  (1) The air cleaner to expose the carburetor. Wingnut?

                  (2) Ignition shielding (if applicable) to expose the distributor and coil. Wingnuts? Maybe screws?

                  (3) Spare tub (on C2, C3, C4?). Your spare lock key (C2?, C3)? C4, lug wrench.

                  (4) Drag out spare (C2, C3, C4) (shoulders, arms, back)

                  (5) Owner literature (if any)

                  (6) Other: During judging, judges will usually not touch your car unless you have been very clear about giving each team blanket permission to access the car for judging. They will otherwise ask you to move/remove any and all items necessary to provide access during judging, and some judging teams will follow this protocol regardless of your expressed permission. Examples are as simple as opening the car doors, removing C3 storage tray for access to jack compartment, opening the headlight doors (C2, C3, C4), raising the wiper door (C3), plus many others too numerous to list. Normally, any items in this category can be completed by the owner without tools.

                  If you have a convertible, you definitely should leave a hardtop at home unless you can document the car originally came equipped with a hardtop. If you can document that the car came with the hardtop, then only the hardtop will be judged if one is installed, but the soft top and the frame will have to be present, i.e. you can't bring a convertible with the hard top, but no soft top and frame installed. If you don't have a hardtop on the car, then the soft top will be judged.

                  Let's see, what have I left out? Anyway, it looks like the "must haves" are wingnut digits, a screwdriver, and...well, if your car flunks something on the operational test, you better bring a complete tool chest in case some kind judge gives you some time to fix who-knows-what before a second try,

                      John ! Many and of use give our time and experience to aid others, asking for nothing from any one even a thank you. Yes some times we get a little silly and show it. I don't know you and what personality you have. But even if I didn't like you, I'm not going to (wish you the worst in life now and forever) as you wished on use. But I do wish I never need to meet or know you.

                        Relax, John. Take a deep breath; let it all out. This is supposed to be about having fun.

                        Everything I told you above is absolutely correct and detailed to the best of my memory, albeit mixed with a little humor, which you are free to ignore. I apologize profusely if my lame attempts at humor offended you, and promise to be completely humorless in your future queries.

                          I believe that during operations, the items are "pass-fail" only. The only time that you get time (once only for 15 minutes) for repairs is during a PV.

                              A hardtop is not removed for judging. The car can be shown with either soft top or hardtop in place. Only one is judged. As an interior judge, I sometimes wish the soft top were raised and out of my way, but that is not always the case.
