Re: battery shut off switch
You would loose any "memory" setting with a break in the electric flow. Things like power seat memory, radio setting, etc. You can get a 9 volt plugin for the cig lighter to maintain the setting but not sure how long that will last. They also make disconnect switches that will allow a very small amount of current flow to keep the setting live.
One big problem with a battery disconnect switch on late models is that you loose your security system with the battery disconnected.

Re: battery shut off switch
Jim,
FYI, many find the "green knob" type have more problems than the "guillotine" type. A friend had chronic problems with his 1990 ZR-1 not starting (as if he had a VATS problem) until he removed his green knob.
I have used the Sav-T-Switch (spelling?) as advertised in the Driveline with good results. They give a discount to NCRS members.

Re: More>>>>>
I was going to say the same thing as Joe 32899. The C5s suck the power out of a batter faster than any car have ever owned. I used a battery tender on mine. They cost a bit more than the $9.99 cheapo ones but the cheap ones will ruin your battery by over charging. This explains why the Battery tender is the best
Eastwood sells them for $59.99 and puts then on sale from time to time for ~$45 to $50 if you shop around you may find them even cheaper. They are worth the extra money, I own 4 of them. Here is the eastwood search link, just type in battery tender

Re: More>>>>>
I prefer the Battery Minder (www.vdcelectronics.com) but they're very similar.
I think the best solution for a C5 is to drive it regularly during the summer and avoid the problem. I then disconnect the battery during the winter, but hit the battery with the Battery Minder in the spring before I reconnect.

Re: More>>>>>
Larry,
Just type in "Battery Minder" in your browser and pull up a boatload of stuff. It has the same circuitry or better as the Battery Tender. I bought mine from Restoration Battery at their Carlisle display.
Disconnecting the battery ONLY erases the flash memory of your computer. It just means it has to "re-learn" the parameters of your particular motor. Not a big deal at all if done once a year. In fact, if you make any motor or performance modifications, you should disconnect the battery so that it learns your new configuration faster.

Re: More>>>>>
I think I may have found it,
From what I have read about it it may be better. Since I own 4 Battery tenders I will stick with what I have. I have been using them for years and am very happy with them. If I needed a new one I would take a very close look at the one you suggested.- Top
