Re: 1965 exhaust manifold removal
Rick,
-----If you snap these off flush with the head you have problems. Depending on how the bolts feel to you with some degree of pressure put on them,I might be inclined to wizzer off the bolt heads, remove the manifolds and then heat the stubs and spray something like WD40 on them while hot. This tends to draw the substance up the threads to some degree. If this heat and cool and WD40 cycle is repeated you should be able to put a pair of vise grips on the stubs and break them loose. Turn them towards "tight" fractionally before turning them out. I know you will have other suggestions(maybe better,LOL),so sit back and wait for a few more posters. This seems to be a problem that many of us have attacked in different ways over the years. Good luck!........Bill S- Top

Re: 1965 exhaust manifold removal
I use CRC penatrating oil and the 'secret' is to spray it 2 times a days for several days, the more times per day and the more days the better. Also tap on the bolt head several times with a ball peen hammer. I also try to tighten it just a hair before trying to loosen it, but I am not sure why this helps. This worked on a 57 that was the original.- Top

Re: 1965 exhaust manifold removal
I've removed many exhaust manifolds and often had problems with the exhaust pipe stud nuts and had the studs snap. However, the bolts that hold the manifold to the head are quite robust and should come out without too much of a prblem, but if they don't easly move (30 to 40 ft lb), you should follow the advise as described above.- Top
