Best Reproduction Bias Plys For My 67 ???

Who makes the best reproduction bias ply tires for my 67 roadster for judging and driving?

    Thanks,

I think that the Kelsey Goodyears are the closest reproductions on the market. Witht the exception of the date code and DOT marking they are pretty much dead on. You will lose the least points

      Dick: Same question for 66

      Dick,

Can you make a recommendation for least deductions for 66 tires?

      Thanks,

      Gary

Re: Dick: Same question for 66

Gary, unless someone has come out with a tire that I have not seen or heard about, the same would hold true for '66. Ken Ford, when he worked for Goodyear, assisted John Kelsey in the design of the tire. While there are minor variations, they are still the closest thing going. The DOT can be made disappear with the cautious use of a exacto knife and a soldering iron. Be careful not to heat the tire too much.

Are They Worth The Extra Cash?????

            Hi Dick,

Are the Kelsey'e worth the extra money ($47 per tire) over the Coker?

            Thanks,

That is a question that you will have to answer yourself. Are you going to have the car judged or are you going to drive it only. If it is a driver, then a good set of radials is the way to go, but if you are searching for points on the judging field, I believe that you will have to go with the Kelseys. I do not have anything against Corky Coker, but the BFG's that he sells are way off what was originally on the car, nomenclature, construction, materials, etc. The tread pattern is off on the BFG's.

As I have stated, the Kelseys are not perfect but they will get you the most judging points.

                Jace,

-------After reading Dickies comeback to you about being up to you,I can at least say that I found the Goodyears to be worth the extra bucks. For one thing they hardly flat-spot at all and the Firestones feel like they are square. I think the Goodyears actually ride better than any other repro bias-ply I ever tried. I have Cokers radial goldlines on one set of wheels and the Goodyear repros on another for my 66,and believe it or not I think I like the bias-ply Goodyears better all around. Cokers radial red and goldlines are so far from a high-perf tire that the bias-plys feel better to me. Thats not to say I wouldnt rather have a really good set of radials, but I guess I just havent gotten around to it yet. Hope this helps!..........Bill S

Re: Are They Worth The Extra Cash?? THANKS!!!

                  Dick & Bill,

Thanks for the input. I have radials on the car now so I am buying the repros for my first regional judging of the car this June in Breckinridge Co. I do want the most points but also want the best ride for a bias ply tire since I will be driving the car from Utah to the event in Colorado. Sounds like the way to go is the Kelsey's.

                  Thanks again,
                  Jace Holt
