Choke/clean air tube

At first sight the automatic choke tube and the clean air tube are missing from my car (1962 Vette). After going through the AIM, service guide and the complete restoration guide by Mr. Adams, I still have no idea how these tubes are connected to the exhaust manifold. Please help.

Do the holes in the manifold run all the way through the manifold?

Hi Henk: I can speak to the 300-340-360HP exhaust mainifold (RH 3797902). The installation of the choke tube and clean air tube is shown on pg B-98 of the AIM, probably better than I can describe it. The choke tube slips into a hole in the top of the RH manifold, located just aft of center. This hole goes thru the casting to the exhaust plennum, to provide for hot air to go to the choke. Sometimes, old tubes break off on this hole and have to be carefully drilled out before inserting the new one. The clean air tube fits into a similar hole in the manifold bottom-front side of the manifold outlet, just forward of center. Part of the clean air tube has a bracket welded to it that attached to the exhaust port stud coming out of the head just forward of the center. The other piece of this assy is a high temp hose that attaches to the tube off the rear of the carburetor horn. All these parts are available from most of the usual supply houses. The very best thing you could do, is try to locate a fellow 62 owner at one of your nearby NCRS chapters, and examine it in detail. Or better yet, treat yourself to a vacation and come visit the states during a major NCRS meet (Bloomington, Carlisle, National, etc). Great opportunity for face-to-face meeting with vendors, owners, and judges etc. Bring a camera and recorder to record a wealth of knowledge and tips. Enjoy the day! Dick
