I didn't have a photo of the tool with the spindle being removed, but I think you can figure out how it works. The splined shaft is suspended upwards through the top plate, and the brass plug goes over the shaft to prevent it from being damaged by the press. The four threaded rods hold the hub casting in place while the spindle is pushed out by the press.

This is the safest, fastest way to do this job. The best part is the press exerts the force - no twisting or sliding hammers! I can make one for you for a reasonable price if you're interested.
