Looking for previous owners of my '67. Found the tank sticker, and it says dealer zone 12 and dealer 622. I know this is Buffalo area but does anyone what dealer 622 is? Also does anyone know how easy and how long the info is kept at NY state DMV?

Dealer Codes
I can do 620 in that area, but I don't see 622. Back then, the major Corvette dealer in Buffalo was Glen Campbell (still there). Think they are number 016. I've never had much luck with records from the state of NY. Check their web site or call for the length of record retention.https://MichiganNCRS.org

Re: Previous owner history
Hi Boston, I have the Buffalo Zone records and I cannot find 12 622. I have dealers 620,621,625, this might be a stupid question but are you sure it's 12 622 ? The only dealer I find is 12 222 he was Dist. 6. Elsenheimer Chevrolet Hornell, New York. I know he's gone but there is a new owner there now. As far as NYS DMV you'd be wasting your time. Hope this helps, email me if I can help with any other questions.>George- Top

Re: Previous owner history
Here's an off the wall thought. I always thought that when the dealer numbers were ORIGINALLY set up within each zone, that they were done alphabetically.
So...if you know # 620, 621, and 625, you original dealer's name would fall "alphabetically" within that range.
Of course....dealerships were sold, names changed, but the ORIGINAL number stayed the same. So, "ABC" Chevrolet might have been Zone 12, Dealer 001 when thing were originally set up. If "ABC" Chevrolet was sold, and became "Zebra" Chevrolet, it would still be Dealer 001. Comments? Chuck1963 Corvette Conv. 327/360 NCRS Top Flight

Re: Previous owner history
Hi Chuck, You're right on that count, names changed codes remained the same, but sometimes if a dealer just closed up his code was gone too, like it's possible that dealer 622 was there say since 1922 and terminated his dealer in 1972 after 50 years in business. We need older dealer code records. Hope this helps. Happy Holidays.>George- Top

Re: Previous owner history
Elsenheimer Chevrolet is still there and still under the same ownership in the same location. They are a mid size dealership that specializes in tow and recovery vehicles. This is typically the type of dealership that might have records that go back 30-40 years stuffed in one of the back rooms in a file cabinet or box.
There have been many reorganizations within GM field organizations so you may have some changes in the zone codes also. What is the Buffalo zone today may have been the Rochester or Pittsburgh zone in 1965.- Top

Re: Previous owner history
Hi Tony, Your right Elsenheimer is still there, my mistake I thought he sold to a new owner, you are also right about the many reorganization and combining of zones. Check archives for Zone Reorganizations. I saw the article about 5 or 6 years ago in NCRS. Happy Holidays.>George- Top

Zone Lists
Dealers have lists of other dealers in their zones, and perhaps lists copied from a "neighbor zone". They were/are used when doing "dealer trade" paperwork. The problem is, few people have old copies, and dealers don't provide that information, as a rule. Window stickers had the numbers on them for years.
Also, a searchable electronic list is part of this web site.https://MichiganNCRS.org
