C2 Hood Release

Whie trying to eliminate all of the free play in my hood release I was bending the primary hood release cable and the cable/wire fatigued and broke. I have the original hood release handle and would like to replace the wire. I have removed the stub of old cable/wire from the handle. After a lot of hunting I have been unable to find wire that is the correct diameter and stiffness. I know I could spend $50 and find a replacement but I'd like to fix the original instead. Any ideas on where to buy the wire?

I think that I would go look for a universal choke or throttle cable at your local NAPA Carquest, etc. I think that they are about the same as your hood cable. The trick is going to be to use your handle. You might be able to drill and tap it to screw on the choke cable.
