    '67 REAR DRIVETRAIN BINDING

My chassis is complete and the frame is on jacks, wheels off. I have the correct delco shocks, which measure about 15" center to center on the mounting holes fully extended. I can only rotate the rear rotors about 1/4 turn either direction until they feel like they are binding and won't turn any further. The half shafts, yokes and all related parts are original to the car and the u- joints are installed correctly. Should I be looking to correct this before I continue. I was planning to put the body on tomorrow, but would like to make any corrections needed now.

What you are descibing sounds normal if the transmission is in NEUTRAL. Otherwise, take it out of gear. The u-joints will bind but I found that I could rotate the wheels with the tires on (more leverage). You can feel the slight bind as it rotated through the extreme angle that the half shafts are in. I wouldn't worry too much about it. Terry

Your U-joints are binding. When you put weight on the chassis and compress the suspension they will not be at such a severe angle and the binding will cease.

The halfshafts may even be touching the differential side yokes and the flanges at the point where it's binding. I assume this angle will change significantly when the body is on as you say. I would have thought that the length of the shocks would prevent the rear spring from pulling the trailing arms down far enough to allow the halfshafts to contact the yokes and flanges. Maybe when I tighten down the rear spring anchor plate after the car is sitting at normal height it will help also.
