C2 Sidepipe efficiency

I read here soem time ago that sidepipes reduce horsepower. Can someone explain the reason why that is and to what degree reduction are we talking about. Thanks

Can't give you numbers, but the sound attenuation in sidepipes was achieved by changes in the diameter of the pipes. I was told by Chevy Engineers at the time that "using sidepipes was like putting a cork in the exhaust"

I remember several previous posts regarding this issue and I recall something like a 10% reduction at higher rpm's. There are sidepipes available that look and fit like the originals but have larger inner diameters that may be less restictive but I would guess they would sound different. I want to say they are made by Sweet Thunder. Try a google search.

P.S. I went from under the body to factory sides on my L-79 and I'd trade the hp for the sound again given the choice. That's just me.
