I purchased a set of repo door panels many years ago. They were so thick that the lock knobs could not be installed and the vent window cranks could not be installed if the stainless steel trim rings were in place. The posts that I have read indicate that the currently available repo panels also have problems. Are they thicker than the originals? Who manufactures them?

I put a set of Al Knoch panels on a friend's 67 convert a couple of months ago. They didn't really fit that well but I was able to get them on. I had to adjust the inside door release and lock shafts slightly to get them to match the holes better on one side. The other side fit reasonably well although both sides were a little thicker than the originals. I've heard AK makes the best panels and there are a couple that are worse fits. There was a place called Just Dashes that used to refurbish your old door panels. I called once on some Camaro deluxe door panels but at the time their service was over twice what I could buy good used or repro panels for. BTW, I used AK Camaro panels and they sucked. One of the worse quality pieces I've ever used on a car, but his Corvette panels weren't near that bad.

Has anyone used the corvette america panels? I am getting ready to buy a complete interior set, door panels, seat covers, seat foam, carpets. Any help would be wonderful.

I think that you are going to find this thickness problem with all of the reproductions. I have discussed this with the manufacturers for years with little or no result. I dont understand why they cant get them right, they should have enough practice by now, but it aint happened. Sometimes they will get better, but they tend to revert back. Unfortunately they are also harder than the originals and the panel will not compress in that area to allow for installation of the handles etc. I always dig out between the vinyl and the backing to allow more deflection but sometimes the door handles will hit the raised areas when turned. When the public quits buying them is when they MAY improve, so squawk when you have trouble with them.Comment
