    70 Monza Red

In the Special Collection at Bloomington there was a 1970 Monza Red Coupe owned by Gene Anderson. The color of the car looked to be of a orangish red color. Other Monza Red cars that I have seen are more of a medium red. Does the true Monza Red by DuPont have an orangish tint to it or is the color of that car changed some due to age? Also, is the Monza Red for 1969 cars the same part number as the 1970 Monza Red.

    Re: 70 Monza Red

I have a 70 Monza Red and looking at parts with original paint I'd say that it is definitively red with some orange tint/shift. In certain light conditions it looks very red orange. All my literature shows the same code (974) for 69 and 70 Monza Red. a All my best from Argentina Roberto NCRS #30019 RMC

        Chuck,

Gene's car is mostly original paint, so what you saw at Bloomington was what it is given that it is now almost 30 years old. The lighting in that building was by some form of high pressure gas lamps (I am no lighting expert, so I don't want to get into what kind of lamps they are). Artifiial light is NOT good for judging shades of color. Different kinds of lighting will bring out different shades. Sunlight is the best for color shade. I suspect the orange you saw was due to those lights.
