My recomendation on a carbon monoxide detector is one with a digital display
That shows battery level-and reading of PPM.Some of the ones with out a display sound the alarm on a certain level of PPM.

The ones with the displays are a little more money but are more sensative and actually show you the level of PPM and have a chart that tell you what the dangers are.
Below is a link that has an excellent description about carbon monoxide poisening.

And please dont belive that as long as a unit is burning clean and proper it does not produce carbon monoxide. It dosent take much to alter a clean burning unit.Something as minor as turning on a clothes dryer while using another heating appliance makes it burn dirty because the clothes dryer is stealing the combustion air and pumping it outside.

Thanks Larry - the warning detector I have in the bedroom is the type of unit with the PPM digital display. It is not showing any appreciable PPM count. The other unit I bought is the professional sampling tool from Bacharach, that requires recalibration and occasional sensing chamber replacmement. I probably went overboard on the do it yourself mode here, I received your email and thanks for your insight. Out of curiousity, If the professional testers require frequent recalibration with reference gas at known CO concentrations to keep accurate, why aren't the home units a use it for a year and throw away/replace type of unit? Seems like the same would apply to them equally as the pro type gear. Thx!....Craig
