The evolution of the "Restorer" is not caused by a shortage of technical articles, as some of us have erroneously proposed, but a lack of space in the magazine for such materials? Sorry, Jerry B, I had no idea.
Let's make sure I have this straight: the technical content of the "Restorer" has been deliberately curtailed to please "all of the people, some of the time" by including articles on meeting awards and road tours? How this preference was determined is a mystery, but a rational mind would probably conclude that the management wanted to encourage judging registrations and road tour participation by throwing out a few "ego biscuits".Comment

It would be wise to realize that if the car owners were not willing to bring their cars for judging there would be no need for technical articles. The judging sets the standard that we all aspire to, and many believe the least we can do is recognize the owners who are willing to subject their cars to the judges scrutiny. I think you fail to acknowledge the value of that recognition if you regard it as an "ego biscuit." I wonder how many of those owners would agree with your characterization.
The goal of management is to increase membership participation in all phases of the events, not just judging. We believe that those who regard their NCRS membership solely as a subscription are missing out on a goodly portion of the club benefits. Just as one example, chapter technical sessions can do a lot to feed ones abdication to matters technical, and they can have an advantage the magazine can not bring you - they can be hands-on.TerryComment

Merely Clarifying That...
The real reason there is less technical material in the Restorer IS NOT because there are no technical articles being submitted. I won't feel as much concern the next time I see an appeal for articles.
Besides, if we REALLY have a problem with the "Restorer" content, I are always free to complain to our "elected representatives".Comment

I guess I would ask: Less than when? I think you will find that the quantity of technical material has not been consistent over the years. Depending on which issues you compare, I believe you will find in some cases there currently are more technical articles than in some issues in the past.
Not all of the articles that are "on deck" are technical articles. But the basic premise you put forward is correct: The quantity of technical material in The Restorer is not determined by a lack of suitable articles, at least not at this time. If a significant number of members disregard the appeals for articles, however, that situation will change. It will also change if a preponderance of the articles I receive are non-technical. I can only print what I receive.
