I removed the vir valve/dryer and disassembled it. What a mess, brown dust and brown oil complete with rust. It cleaned up well, but i am unfamiliar with the gizmo on the top that was held down(?) with a plate and two bolts. I tried removing the plate and then gently prying up on what looks like it could be a thermostatic expansion valve. It wouldn't budge; so before i use bull in china shop approach, i thought i better ask...PLEASE. i notice that vir valves are available for about $30, and dessicant for thirty. The dessicant doesn't go bad; i wonder if i could clean it and then dry it in an oven? TIA Jim P.s. yes compressor is shot, it rotates but based on what i found.....
