    59 rear springs

took the rear springs out of my car and they are the original in good shape need new liners and paint
when the banding is judged does it matter what the crimp looks like and do the repro bands have the serrations?
    is the front bracket painted?
how far in the wheel well does the sound deadner extend?
    thanx

      Re: 59 rear springs

Bob, I tryed to answer your questions one by one in my first post but it didn't take for some reason. I had similar trouble with another post posting entirely in another thread. I'll try again here. I don't believe the "crimp" is judged. Neither my 4th edition Judging Manual or 5th edition Tech Info & Judging Guide mention this detail. My repro bands from Paragon didn't have any serrated edges. The spring hanger is painted. I had my springs shot peened and re-arched to specs by Eaton Springs in Detroit. I picked up the leaves for painting and then returned them to Eaton for banding. I didn't want any paint on the liners and felt I would do a better job painting myself. The manuals say the springs can be painted or not and that sometimes the top leaf is painted silver. I could have rented the banding tool from Paragon but it was more convenient to let Eaton do the banding. Paragon has the correct original type waxed fiber liners w/metal ends and the correct center leaf spring bolt. The bolt gets cut off about 3/8's below the nut and then peened over. Make sure the shop you choose knows what they're doing and don't use any heat unless absolutely necessary as it removes the temper from the steel.
