    C1 1959 Winshild Washers

    I'm having trouble adjusting my windshield washers so they will work correctly. The washers come on. The wipers work at high speed. The washers turn off. The wipers change to slow speed for only one stroke across the windshield and then immediately stop at the bottom of the windshield. The wipers don't "park" before stopping at the bottom of the windshield.

    The wipers obviously need to "park" before turning off and stopping at the bottom of the windshield. I would also like them to operate in the slow speed for more than one stoke across the windshield. My difficulty is knowing the trick of adjusting them to do both. Any helpful hints? Thanks.

    Perry - There may be other opinions out there, but I'd say your washers are working perfectly. I would not adjust a thing. Having them work at all is a major miracle, don't tamper with it. Best, Dennis

      You may need to rebuild your washer value unit. There is a screw on that unit that adjust how many times the wiper will go back and forth before stopping when you push the washer button. Maybe that is causing the problem. You can get a rebuilding kit from Corvette America for about $25.00. But, take your camera out and photograph the value as you take it apart. There is no manual or description in any manual I ever can across to tell you how to put it back together again. Hope this helps??

          I not sure if it was an option, I don't think so. But 59 and 60s had them.

          You have a vacuum tank on the left side (carb type) the right side for F.I. The reservoir and washer value (attached to the lid with rivets) are on the left inside fender (engine compartment). There are four fitting that come out of the washer value;
          1)The top fitting (away from the lid)hose goes through the fire wall and connect to the washer knob on the instrument panel
          2)The next fitting down; that hose goes to the coupler in the wiper motor.
          3)The next fitting down goes to the vacuum tank (bottom fitting on the tank)
          4)the last fitting closest to the lid goes through the firewall to a tee fitting which branches to the nozzles.
          5)The top fitting on the vacuum tank hose runs to the back of the carb base plate and to a L fitting for the vacuum source.

          There is a screw on the side of the washer value. that is the adjustment for how many times the wiper blades goes back and forth when you press the washer buttom on the windshield wiper switch.

          Maybe I over did this. I'm sorry if I did. Let me know if this helps??
